Leave early, pack a lunch
More than an hour from Onda, but worth having a full day ahead of you.

Penyagolosa
The highest peak in the Valencian Community (1,813 m) and the natural park surrounding it. Hiking routes for all levels starting from the Mas del Pont. At the foot of the summit, the monastery of Sant Joan de Penyagolosa, founded in the 14th century and a pilgrimage destination for centuries.

Morella
One of the best-preserved medieval cities in Spain. Complete walls, a bishop's castle at the top of a rocky outcrop, cobbled streets and inland cuisine with black truffle as the star ingredient. A day covers the essentials.

Peñíscola
The castle of Pope Luna above the Mediterranean, a walled village on a rocky promontory and a sandy beach. The old town is walkable in two hours. In high season it gets busy; outside it, it's a different place entirely.
Onda as a base
The area within reach, with everything you need here
Onda sits between the coast and the interior, with the CV-20 as its axis. From here you can reach most of these places in under an hour, and a few others just over. When you get back there's somewhere good to eat and somewhere good to sleep. And if you feel like exploring the town itself, it has its own character: ceramics, castle, market.
