Sierra de Espadán
More than 31,000 hectares and one of the largest cork oak forests in the Comunitat Valenciana. The gateway to the natural park from La Plana Baixa, with routes ranging from easy family walks to multi-day traverses through the villages of Tales, Suera and Eslida.
ExploreMontí and the Santa Bàrbara hermitage
The Montí rises to the south of Onda, 3 km from the centre. Paths from the old town lead up to the Santa Bàrbara hermitage, with views over La Plana and the castle. A comfortable circular walk of 2 to 3 hours.
ExploreAragonese Peaks
A sandstone cliff wall between Onda and Artana, on the edge of the Sierra de Espadán. A half-day circular route (10–12 km, 400 m elevation gain) with views across La Plana and the Mediterranean.
ExploreSichar Reservoir
317 hectares of fresh water 14 minutes from the town centre. Picnic area, swimming at the Platja d'Onda, kayaking, a viewpoint and mountain-bike trails. The most accessible nature escape in the municipality.

Intense heat: best to head out at dawn. The Sichar at its best for swimming; the Millars offers shade from poplars.
Autumn
Notable colours in the cork oak forest in October and November. The reservoir begins to receive migratory birds.
Winter
Ducks, cormorants and gulls at the reservoir. Low-altitude routes remain open; summits may have fog or occasional frost.
