The workshop is on Alfred Nobel street, on the edge of the historic centre. Joaquín Safont Gimeno makes traditional Valencian tiles: the kind of decorative ceramics with classic motifs once used to line skirting, niches and façades. This isn't industrial reproduction, it's small-scale handmade production.

Alongside the tiles, the workshop makes ceramic meninas and a line of ceramic souvenirs. They are pieces meant to take a bit of Onda home, with the advantage that they are made here, in the same workshop where you can see the process.

The surname is no accident. Manolo Safont, the great Onda ceramicist whose work presides over the Museu del Taulellet, was from the same family. Same surname, same town, same raw material.

Learn to decorate, by appointment

The workshop offers ceramic decoration sessions. These aren't regular classes but sessions on request, by appointment, for groups or individuals. If you want to try decorating a piece, you call and it gets arranged.

Open on Sundays too

The hours are generous for a craft workshop: Monday to Friday in two shifts, Saturday mornings and Sundays from 10:00 to 14:00. For the decoration workshops, it's best to call ahead.
