Onda has factories covering hectares and exporting to half the world. But it also has four workshops where one person makes ceramics by hand, piece by piece. They are different things, even if they share the same material and the same city.
These workshops use the potter's wheel, mix their own glazes, paint commissioned murals and pictures, and show the process to anyone who wants to see it. Some have a shop open to walk-ins; others work more by commission or appointment.
A family project: Joana Segura, a ceramicist with over twenty years of experience, and her daughter Marta, who returned from Chile, Greece and Denmark to champion local ceramic art. Classes in hand-building and wheel throwing, Saturday workshops, group experiences, and their own ceramic jewellery line (Les Joies de Fang).
Hand-painted pieces and personalised commissions: paintings, murals and portraits in ceramics. Live demonstrations so visitors can see the whole process from outside the workshop.
Makes her own glazes and ceramic pastes using wheel and mould techniques. The only workshop in Onda producing bizcochado pieces for local artistic decoration, with a fully artisan process from raw material to finished piece.
Traditional Valencian tiles, ceramic meninas and ceramic souvenirs, with a decoration workshop available by appointment. The Safont name has a long history in Onda's ceramics: Manolo Safont, the city's great ceramic artist, was from the same family.
